Re: citation

Furnishing alcohol to a person under the age of 21 is an A misdemeanor in NY, carrying a maximum of one year in jail and/or a maximum fine of $1,000.00 plus a mandatory surcharge of around $150.

What will be the outcome in your particular case will depend on a lot of things, such as the actual facts of the case and your prior criminal history, if any. If your record is pretty clean and there's not more to the story than you are willing to disclose here, expect to pay some sort of fine and no jail. There is no minimum fine so it will be up to the judge how much, but you must pay the surcharge.

There is a good possibility that the prosecutor will offer you a plea bargain to a lesser offense. An attorney can help this happen, so you might want one. If you can't afford one, contact your local office of Assigned Counsel.
