Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York
contractor steals furnace
We fired a contractor and told him to pack up his things and leave on my way over to the house when I got there he was leaving when I looked inside home I found that he had stole our furnace,hot water tank,faucets,he even took the tongue and groove ceiling down all these things were already installed is this legal I called police they arrested him and now the courts our saying it is a civil matter. I dont want this dismissed I feel he should be charged with something.

This doesn't sound like a civil matter. It sounds like self help and theft. Speak to the District Attorney, and your own lawyer... and then maybe to a local news reporter.
