Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York
Is being convicted of "attempted arson" the same as being convicted of "arson"?

It is similar, but one degree less severe. Since I don't know the exact conviction charge I can't give a definitive answer. I do however believe it is a Felony.

No, an attempt is always one level below the main crime. You didn't say what degree arson but let's say it's a C felony arson, thr attempt would be a D felony.
