Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

how to get a copy of a transcript not a disposition

We have already requested and received a copy of the Disposition of a case of theft in 1997. The Disposition was a shock to the family, they believed the original Felony charge had been reduced to a misdemeanor. At the time it was understood, the day of the hearing if the monies was paid and restitution was made the charge was reduced. The young man involved joined the U.S. Navy informing the recruiter he had been found guilty of a misdemeanor. While he was in Boot Camp within a few days he was discharged because of this incident. It is of upmost importance to be able to get a copy of the transcript of the hearing. How do we get this copy?

Thanks A concerned friend of the family Linda

Re: how to get a copy of a transcript not a disposition

You need to find out who the court reporter was for the day of the plea. That is, the person who transcribed the plea. The clerk's office may know which reporter service the courthouse uses. Once you find out who the reporter was contact him or her and order a transcript.
