Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

corrupt DA's office, sister's trial, leak?

My sister is due to go to trial this Monday. Her ex husband and his mother have TIGHT connections with the DA's office (the mother has relationship with a man there, and my ex-brother in law is good friends with the assistant DA). My ex brother-in-law has been given information ahead of time all along in any legal issues involving my sister. Her lawyer acknowledges the leak, but says he doesn't want to say anything for fear of rocking the boat. Can this leak be in her favor? Is there anything anyone can do? Can she opt to have her trial be held somewhere else? Please, I really need your help.

The last thing a criminal defendant needs is a lawyer that is afraid to "rock the boat." If the ties are strong enough, he should be moving for a special prosecutor and a change in venue.

IF there are no lawyers in the area willing to take on the "powers that be" then hire one from another area. Find a lawyer who is a member of the NYS Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (The main number is in NYC) and/or the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers... located in Washington DC). These guys are usually aggressive about people's rights and fight very hard.

YOu are welcome to call me about the case as well.

Good Luck.
