Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York
CPL 30.30 Motion
Suppose the People aren't ready at the pre-trial hearing and request an adjournment (1 week). However, the Defense Attorney asks for an additional week. Upon that later date, are the People charged 1 week or 2 if they still are not ready?

they are only charged for the time they asked for, if your attorney asks for extra time it is not counted to the people. but it can be a smart tactic, not to allow the people to set the case for the exact date they want, just to make things hard on them...
