Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York
Crazy Neighbor
Hi, I live in a brownstone in NYC (rental) and my neighbor has tampered with my property several times. When I confront her, she says, ''You can't prove I did it,'' although there is a long history of things I can prove.
Would it be legal for me to set up a video camera in the foyer of our building to try to catch her in the act? Thank you.

ABSOLUTELY! so long as it is your property you place the camera on...
good luck!
Re: Crazy Neighbor
You should read your lease and speak with the landlord to see what rights you have in this common area. I am working on a similar case right now (although it involves adjourning homeowners) and my client will likely sue the neighbor for trespass, private nuisance and a permanent injunction to stop further violations.
Feel free to contact me if you wish to pursue a similar case.
Re: Crazy Neighbor
Yes, it is legal, provided you have a permission from your landlord to install your personal equipment in the common areas of the building, just to avoid problems of landlord/tenant character.
