I have a question about credible information - define it as it pertains to law and also can a witness by credible if they stand to gain by lying.

A witnesses credibility is to be judged by a jury according to the instructions found here:

If a witness stands to gain something by lying, then the jury may take that into consideration in deciding the witnesses veracity.
