Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

which crime is worse

I would like to know which crime is worse in the state of New York Manslaughter in the 1st class B to a repeat offerder. Or Assult in the 1st degree class B. I know both offerders. The person who got manslaughter got less time for the murder than the Assult crime is this normal. The person with the assult beat someone with there bare hands into a coma and the person is alive and well at the moment. Is there something that can be done. Is there something wrong with the system.

Re: which crime is worse

Sentencing a convicted offender considers several different factors; even if two people are convicted of the same crime against the same victim, they may receive different sentences. One factor considered is a person's criminal history and/or pattern of running afoul of the law. Think of it like a convenience store where the prices keep going up... the first gallon of milk may cost $5, but if you keep going back, then even a stick of gum will eventually cost $10,000.

Without knowing more about each considered offender and the facts of the offense, it is impossible to comment on the respective sentences.
