There is a statute of limitations for felony crimes in New York. The statute of limitations for crimes committed in NY is governed by Section 30.10 of the New York Criminal Procedure Law. The statute of limitations varies based on the type of felony and the facts of any particlar case. Some felonies such as murder, rape and other sex crimes have no statute of limitations and maybe prosecuted at any time after the crime is committed. However, most felonies have a 5 year statute of limitation, but there are exceptions and other variables that may extend this period based on the facts of any particular case.
