Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York
criminal defense
My boyfriend is 21 years old and on felony probation for DWI, driving w/o license, registration, etc. (he pled guilty to avoid more jail time). He was just charged with burglary, criminal mischief, giving alcohol to minors (he and two others broke into an empty house and broke all of the windows, causing extensive damage), arson (they tried unsuccessfully to set it on fire). In addition he's violated his probation, of course. The authorities have threatened him with a long period of prison incarceration (up to 30 years) because he's been charged with 3 felonies. The punishment doesn't seem to fit the crime in this case. What can he reaonably expect?

Re: criminal defense
It is impossible to give you an estimate of how much time your boyfriend is looking at. A lot will depend on his prior record; the underlying circumstnces of the current offense(s); the strength of the prosecutor's case. He definitely needs to contact an attorney for a more in-depth analysis of his case and his options. Feel free to contact my office for a more detailed consultation.

Arson is generally treated extremely seriously... as are violations of probation.
There are several questions I would have for you right off the bat, what county is the case in and was it the same county as the previous case(s)?
how far into his probation was he?
overall, my major suggestion would be to immediately hire someone able to help you with this case. He is potentially facing a VERY ling time in prison, and this is something that could greatly be minimalized if not fully avoided... I would NOT rely on a public defender in such a circumstance...
what is his name, and what count ywas the arrest - i would like to look up his info on the courts computer system and then you may contact me for a free consultation at 212.709.8303
