Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

criminal law

I asked my boyfriend, who is a mechanic to take my winter car to be inspected. The car failed, he didnt tell me. Months passed, I was not driving this car. Two weeks ago I recved a voice mail at work (RN) from the police that they were towing my car from my driveway due to a ''problem with the inspection sticker'' Icalled them back and they said it was stolen sticker on my car and that I was being charged with possession of stolen property. I had no idea and I havent driven this car in months. They asked me to make a statement which I did.Now two weeks later they want me to come back and be arrested, fingerprinted and pictured. They said they were giving me an appearence ticket and charging me with a class A misdemenor. I didnt do this , I dont know what to do.

Re: criminal law

You should retain an experienced criminal defense attorney ASAP. You have not yet been arrested nor formally charged and perhaps some vigorous negotiating can help you avoid a serious problem.

Re: criminal law

YOU NEED A LAWYER. You have a professional license to protect. You have already given a statement and you have let the cat out of the proverbial bag. Get on line and find the best lawyer you can find and afford and DO NOT go back to the police without him. He maybe able to convince them not to proceed at this time and to investigate further.

BTW Get a new boyfriend while you're at it.

Good Luck.

Re: criminal law

HIRE A ATTORNEY ASAP, in cases such as this my office has been able, in some circumstances, to get the charges dismissed before appearance for the appearance ticket, or at the day of appearance in court...

you MUST take every precaution with this matter, and take it extremely seriously as it could affect your career and livelihood.

feel free to contact my office for further information or a phone consultation at 212.709.8303
