criminal law/maximum expiration date

Can you please interpret the following paragraph: Maximum Expiration Date/post Release Supervision Date of Sentence:

The legal dates posted on this site are the dates which were reported at the time of registration and are subject to change. The conditions of supervision are subject to change during the supervision period. The special conditions of release do not apply past the maximum expiration date of sentence because the offender is no longer under supervision by the listed supervising agency for this crime.

you need to provide more information. are you on post release supervision (PRS) now? are you currently serving a determinate sentence? was PRS part of your plea, if you pleaded guilty?

be aware, though, that the issue of PRS in new york has been a real mess for the past few years, since the department of corrections has essentially been "sentencing" defendants to PRS even when the sentencing court did not, due to a misunderstanding of the law by both DOCS and the courts.

if you have been given PRS when it was not part of your sentence or plea agreement, then you should contact your lawyer and have this matter raised in court. the sentencing court will likely have to revisit the issue, and you may be able to get out of PRS altogether.
