criminal possessin of a weapon
My boyfriend was charged with criminal possession of a weapon but they dont have the weapon. So what will happen next.

A weapon is not wholly necessary to continue with the prosecution, it would however be one factor as to the effect of a trial. If there are any witnesses claiming he was seen with the gun they may be used to support the claim, then it would be an issue of their believability at trial.
