Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

Dangerous dog

My neighbors say their dog came onto our property, and our dog attacked their dog, causing a vet bill of $800 dollars. We have serious doubt that this accured. Our dog is fenced in by invisible fence. And has never left the property. These people have hated us since me moved in some 23 years ago, they hate everyone. They sent us 2 notices asking for us to pay the vet bill. We have not given them a dime. They in turn have taken this to the point where we have been arraigned in the court for a dangerous dog violation. We know that these people hate us and will do anything to cause pain and suffering to me and my family. What should we do?
