my daughter has been charged with shop-lifting .
has to appear before judge tomorrow .

It all depends on the amount she is charged with taking. A very small amount she might be offered an ACOD with community service. This will result in the being dismissed in six months. Otherwise she might be told to come back on another date with a lawyer. To really give you accurate advice I need to know her age, occupation, the store involved and the amount taken. If this is her first offense, in Suffolk County jail is unlikely for this charge.
