Most likely the police will not speak with anyone after the summons is written until the court date. An attorney can reach out to the police or district attorney's office, depending on where you live and the process in effect there. In NYC, you probably won't be able to speak with anyone, but my office provides several low-cost options to parents to keep their child's criminal record clear and free from anything which may affect their career or future employment. Please feel free to reach out for a free telephone consultation.
Good luck,
