Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York
my daughter passed away 3 days ago and is supposed to be in court tomorrow for felony charges. I haven't received any paperwork yet so I'm not sure what I do. I don't think I can handle them coming and looking for her or putting a warrant out, it may not affect her now but it still does me. What do I give the court to proof her death?
1 Answer from Attorneys
So sorry about your loss. If your daughter did not have a private lawyer or Legal Aid representing her on these charges, then you should try to call the District Attorney's Office first thing in the morning and notify them accordingly. Better yet, if you can go to Court for the hearing and talk to the District Attorney directly. As far as proof of death, you can provide a Death certificate and/or Receipt from the Funeral Home.
