Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

Death Threat By Relative In Front of Witnesses

During a settlement conference of our late mother's estate, my brother, who has a criminal record, made a clear death threat against me and our older brother. The Estate's attorney was in the room and witnessed the threat being made. In fact, the threat was made in such a loud voice that other people in the office building overheard it. I assume making such a threat is illegal, do I assume correctly? What legal recourses/options do I have?

You must make a report to the police if you feel the threat is serious.

The police will charge him with blackmail or harassment.

The local police precinct is the proper address to first make a complaint. Include a statement from other persons (the lawyer) who heard the threat.
