death threats received
Is it a crime to make a death threat via email from a person in New York to a person in Illinois and if so, what would it be called legally?

Hello. A threat like the one you described via
an email is very serious. First of all the crime
occurs where the email is intended to be received.
Therefore, the crime is committed in Illinois.
Second, the threat would be similar to that of
phone harrassment in Illinois. However, since the
threat is made via the internet, there may be a
violation of federal law as well. If the threat
is made against a federal employee or agent, or
a state official, then the criminal charge will
be even more serious.
