Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York
detained
I have a friend who was arrested in February of this year. He is being held at Riker's Island in NY because he could not post bail. He can't afford a lawyer so he has a court appointed legal aid. My question is this-how long can he be detained without being sentenced? He has been there for 10 months already and they keep giving him court dates once a month and not doing anything. Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Re: detained
He will be detained until he posts bail or gets an attorney who is more talented or has more time to give to his problem or his case is heard.
