Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York
detaining time
I have a friend who has been arrested. He was told that the charges on him were dropped but they have to hold him because another department issued a retainer for an insodent from about 7 years ago. He has been arrested before and the other department has never persued it. This is the first time they acutally made him stay at the facility. How long can they hold him on a retainer if the other department decides not to show again?
Thank you

Re: detaining time
He should have been brought before a judge to be advised of his rights with respect to the warrant from the other jurisdiction.
