Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

Disorderly Conduct

I was arrested for Disorderly Conduct, for urinating on the property of the local high school. I was not drunk at the time but several people in my company were. I am a college student nearby. The event happened in the state of New York. The appearance ticket says I violated section 240.2 sub-division 7. I must attend court on Wednesday. Do I face jail time or just a fine? In addition, my appearance time is 9AM on Wednesday but I need to be home for the Jewish Holiday Rosh Hashanah by sunset to attend temple. My bus leaves town at 2PM. Should and can I file some type of postponement?

Thank you so much for your assistance.

Re: Disorderly Conduct

If you will be represented by an attorney, make it clear to the attorney that you need to get out by 2pm. While attorneys are usually powerless to control when they are called, the attorneys that arrive earliest are usually called first and the case can then be dealt with.

More likely than not, you face a fine and maybe some sort of community service. These determinations are made either as part of a plea agreement or by a Judge.

Do not miss court as the Judge may issue a warrant for your arrest in such a case.
