disorderly conduct summons in nYC

I recently got a summons from an officer in NYC. This is a first time summons for anything in NYC. What is the maximum penatly? And do I really need to pay for an attorney if i'm going to get fined regardless? Could there be jailtime involved?

If you want the matter handled properly you hire an attorney. If you want to take your chances on your own you go on your own. There is a maximum penalty of 15 days in jail on a Disorderly Conduct charge, although it's rarely enforced.

I would like to answer your question more completely but I need more information. Disorderly conduct is section 240.20 of NY's Penal Law. It is a violation and carries a max penalty of 15 days in jail and of course the possibility of a fine and other dispositions.

I would want to know what your prior record is in other states because you seemed to imply by stressing this was your first summons in NYC that you might have one. Overall, while this may not seem like a huge case, an attorney can always help. There are alternatives to pleading guilty to the violation.
