Doesnt the DA'S office have to share the information they have with the defense attorney?

No, the DA's Office does NOT have to share all of its information with the defense. Almost all of what is statutorily or judicially mandated to be served upon (or turned over to) the defendant is described in Criminal Procedure Law section 240.20.
In fact, you have much less right to disclosure of the other side's info and evidence in criminal cases than you do in civil cases in NY. As unjust as that may seem, that's the state of the law in this state.
