Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

I need help

My former employer recently sent me a letter stating that they discovered irregularities in the way I handled payments for their facility. My job was to enter payments received for childcare. We received checks from childcare agencies. On several occasions after entering the amounts due for the month there would be money left over, so I went to management and asked what to do. they told me to make sure it was credited to the right department. They are saying that I replaced cash payments with the checks. And that a group who rents space from them stated that I told them to make their check payable to me instead of the facility. None of this is true but I don't know how to prove it and they wan tme to come in and talk with them. what do I do?

Re: I need help

The simple answer is that you should consult with an attorney who handles criminal matters. I would not speak to your former emloyer without having an attorney with you, if at all.

Re: I need help

There is a problem in this company - and the finger is pointing at you. However, because you are innocent, it should be possible to clear your name.

First - is there a claim there is money missing? And did the tenant actually make out any checks in your name?

I assume the answer to both is 'no'. Therefore, you will not have any trouble with the police.

Your goal may be to preserve your job. Perhaps mentioning that to your employer would be helpful. It would show you have confidence in your innocence.

As to discussing the main matter of the accusations against you, remember they are merely 'accusations'. There can be no evidence against you. But it is a good idea to speak with an attorney directly to examine the details of this matter.
