Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York
Expunging criminal record
I plead guilty to a misdemeanor assault charge back in 1994. It was a bar fight. I am looking for a job on Wall Street and this record is hindering me from attaining a job. Is there any way to have it expunged from my criminal record?

Re: Expunging criminal record
Unfortunatly, the answer is "no." There is no statute authorizing expungment and even if a judge exercises his/her inherent power to do it the New York State Department of Criminal Justice Services will not recognize the order because there is no statutory authority for it.
