Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

felony charge

In october of 2003 i was working for a drug store and i took money. I was let go from the store and made arrangements to repay the money. I never went to court or was arrested, but recently I applied for a job and was not hired based on the fact that I had a felony and a misdemenor charge on my record. Is there any way to get this off, I have been paying the debt of monthly. When i pay it back in full will it be romoved or will it stay on my record forever. I am going to college to become a teacher and I do not want to get out of school and not be able to obtain a job.

Re: felony charge

Your first step must be to get details on what you were convicted of. Go to the court clerk and get a record of the conviction. By the way, if you have a criminal conviction, you DID have a case in court -- maybe you didn't show up but there was a case in court.

Then, you can apply for a "certificate of relief from disabilities" at the same court.

Re: felony charge

I am confused by the facts that you lay out. If you never were arrested or went to court you can not have a record of any kind. Were you ever arrested or in court on any other situation or incident? You will need to talk to an attorney who will need to send to Albany to get your criminal record and find out what is on it.
