Felony while going to college?

im currently a college student. unfortunately i stole from the store where i used to work and was charged with " grand larceny". is it possible that the judge could go easier on me or at leat drop it to a misdemeanor because im a college student?

i live in NY and im currently 19 years old however the offense was commited while i was 18. i have no priors. my court date is jan 6 2010
