Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

Filing for Criminal Charges

How do I file Criminal Charges in NY City. I have proven

that my landlord filed false documents with the Division

of Housing and Community Renewal. I also have

documentation which shows; Fraud, Perjury, Scheming

to Defraud, etc. What do I need to do about filing these

as criminal charges. I have been to the DA and they are

of very little help. Do I need them to file Criminal

charges or can I do this on my own.

Re: Filing for Criminal Charges

All you can do is inform the Police and/or the District Attorney's Office. If they don't feel there is a sufficient basis to prosecute, then you cannot institute criminal charges. Only the state or federal government can institute criminal charges. If you've been a victim of your landlord's malfeasance, then maybe you can seek to bring a civil action against him/her if you have suffered some monetary loss due to the landlord's actions.
