Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

I want to find out how to start a pardon procedure? I was convicted of a 2nd degree misdemeanor criminal trespass 5 years ago in New York State. I paid the fine and no prison time was set for the case. Since then I haven't gotten in trouble at all. However, I have been refused a job at least twice because of this record and have to disclose it everytime I apply for a job and worry about it.

Since New York state does not allow expungement of criminal records I wanted to pursue a pardon from the state governor. Could you please guide me in a direction from where to start? Do I absolutely need to consult with a lawyer? Or can I fill out some forms and mail it for consideration? If there are forms, what are they called and where can I find them?

Thanks in advance for your help.

A potential employer can ask you if you have a felony conviction but in most cases a misdemeanor conviction is not a question that is normally asked or disclosed in the application process, however, it may all depend on they type of employment you are seeking. Your best avenue in NY may be to seek assistance from an employment counselor and get a complete criminal and financial background check.
