Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

What is the possible fine?

I have been charged with 1 count of criminal possession of stolen property, stolen license plates. I was issued an appearence ticket for town court. I am on public assistance, a home owner and the single mom of 2 small children. I told the entire truth to the arresting officer. I would like to know what may happen when I get to court. Should I, or can I, request a lawyer after confessing? How much could my fine be? Is there any way I can get it reduced, seeing as how I only have 485.00 a month income?

Re: What is the possible fine?

Once you have been charged with a crime you are entitled to have a lawyer represent you even if you can't afford one. Not withstanding what you told the police officer you should have a lawyer.

Depending on the exact nature of your offense and any prior criminal history you may have, you could get a fine, probation or a jail sentence. You need a lawyer.
