Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York
I Just finished a criminal trial my case was aquitted.i want to know how much time i have to file a civil case .I was told by a friend i have one year after my case was aquitted i want to know if this is true thay why i am seeking legal advice

Its much shorter than a year depending on whether you pursue State or federal claims. Also, just because your were acquitted does not mean you automatically have a case. There are many factors to consider such as whether you were indicted, whether the judge made a probable cause finding and whether the police withheld evidence. If you are suing the Police or the City, you have 90 days to file a notice of claim, otherwise you have at least a year.
