Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York
Ex forged my name and impersinated me on home refinance
My ex and his new partner needed $$$ to build a new home. I signed a quit claim on our old home giving it to him, however my name still appeared on the mortgage. When asked by him a few years later if I would sign and go along with a refinance on that home I refused. Ex had a fake I.D made up with new partners picture-my SSN, and DOB and had new partner forged my name and impersonated me by adding my name back onto the deed, then refinancing the home, then another quit claim deed taking my name off the deed again. Ex and his new partner collected 80 grand and built a new home (as he is a builder) the tenants in our old home are paying the mortgage on their new 300,000. home. I have copies of all forged documents along with a copy of the fake I.D taken by the title company notary. What kind of trouble will my ex and his partner be in if I take this info to the authorities.? Thank you Christine

Re: Ex forged my name and impersinated me on home refinance
The short answer is relatively BIG trouble. This would constitute a felony and he could be charged with any number of things including forgery, conspiracy to commit forgery, etc...
If he defrauded a bank to refinance, since they are insured by the FDIC, the Feds might be interested as well I believe.
Good luck.
