Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

a friend of mine had a back pack with paper work in it with his name and social security number on it at a friends house. The house got raided for drugs because they watched his friend make a sale and he was not there but the bag had drugs in it. The police took the bag. Can he be held responsible for it?

Unless they can directly tie the back pack to your friend then no but they can get an accessory charge if they have other evidence against him.
