Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

Well, one of my friends from college was visiting me in New York City and we were smoking marijuana in the park. Two undercover cops came up to us while my friend was smoking it. We both cooperated, we showed them our IDs and the officer asked me to stand up. I told him I would but as I just had surgery on my knee that it would take me a second to do so (he was accommodating at that point). He asked me if I had anything that he should know about on me. I admitted it and showed him that I had marijuana in a quantity for personal use. They also took the mostly smoked joint as evidence, however they left me with the marijuana, they did not take it. They arrested my friend and let me off, however they wrote down my name and told my friend that if anyone asks he lives at my address. They also told my friend that they would book him but as long as he showed up at court that it would be thrown out.

I merely wish to know what are the possible repercussions for the both of us. Could they possibly still arrest me or am I just being paranoid, could my friend argue selective prosecution and could that lead to me getting arrested and also what about the fact that they didn't confiscate the marijuana? It was so weird.

You are being paranoid. They won't come to your home arrest you at a later date Selective prosecution is not a defense to a criminal charge, but your friend should definitely hire a lawyer to represent him.

Marijuana cases in New York are treated differently by different judges and a conviction can adversely affect student loan availability, graduate school admission and future employment.
