Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

Good morning, I am seeking advise on a touchy matter. In may of last year , My friend was wrongly accused of stealing possesions that didn't belong to him. We went into court three times after that. Finally in November, the judged ruled in our favor. The judge ordered the police department to return everything back to my resisidents. within three days, We went to the police station to try to get our possesions, but the chief of police , would not release the items. He said that he wasn't going to do anything about this. Well, it's been 6 months later, and still the belongings have not been returned to my home. I don't understand why a officer of the law can break a court order,, Can he? Does he hold more power over a judge? Thank you for you time .

You need to go back to court and request that the court give you a written order for the police, if that fails you have to file a motion in Supreme Court for a writ of mandamus forcing the police to act. You will need a lawyer for these if you want to be successful.
