I agree with Mr. Colleluori and Mr. Gonzalez.

A good criminal lawyer can negotiate with the District Attorney so that your child could be granted youthful offender status. This means that his conviction is changed to youthful offender, and he would not have a criminal record. The lawyer could advocate that your child needs counseling, rather than incarceration.

Hire a lawyer now. At 17 he doesn't need to go to jail, or have a criminal record, both of which will haunt him for the rest of his life.

If you would like to retain my services, please feel free to contact me. I have over 35 years as a criminal attorney.

Well first, what has been done?

HE needs a good lawyer. One with a real background in criminal defense. If you can't afford a lawyer make sure you get a good free one from the court.

As soon as he is assigned (or hired) get a meeting with him. You have to be a good advocate for your son.

If he is not in jail, get him to a shrink. There is a reason kids act out. You better find out what the reason is for him. It can be helpful in case a plea bargain occurs.

Next see if the attorney needs an investigator. He should given the charges. Get a good one. He can speak to the victims and get the unadulterated scoop.

The attorney should prep your son to see if he would make a good grand jury witness in his own behalf. If not he doesn't testify but if he is a good witness I have seen a lot of cases dropped in the grand jury.

Do not allow your son to be cowed into a plea, but don't be stubborn either. Just make sure you have all the facts before deciding whether to go to trial or plead.

As for jail, Your son is an eligable Youthful Offender which means he could get no conviction and up to 6 months and five years probation. Straight probation is not out of the question.

Good Luck.

Re: grand larcency and burgulary

Much can be one on a case like this, especially because of his age - this however is of course all dependant on various factors such as his previous criminal record (among other things)

If you are able to I would suggest hiring him a very good defense attorney to assist you with this case.
