Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York
What can a guy be charged with if he took $5,000 from another person and said he'd help him put a down payment on a used car, but instead he uses it to buy another car. There were no paper trails, just the complainant.

I''m not clear about what happened. If a person take $5,000 to help the person who gave the money to buy a car but the person who received the money bought a car for himself, then it is Grand Larceny. If the person bought a different car for the person who gave him the money because it was a better buy or the first car was not available, then there is no crime.
