Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

harrasment emails

I was having a conversation with an x-friend by email...We were going back and forth and then I recieve an email from someone who claims to be a cop. First of all its in my spam folder. No letterhead, no police address on the e-mail, a regular email.. I did not believe it so both of us keep on going, I never threatend her, or harmed her in anyway...I had an order of protection issed because of her abuse...She answered every one of my emails and I answered hers. This cop called my office and told my co-worker that I was having Crimal charges against me. He told my co-worker to call me, he would not take my home # or cell #.the next day I was arrested!

If both people are sending emails to each other, where is there harrasment? How does the police department get involved in e-mails? Its just not fair...

Re: harrasment emails

Did your ex-friend have an order of protection against you? If so, I assume the order of protection prohibited communcation by any means, including emails, with your ex-friend. It sounds like you may be facing charges of Aggravated Harassment and Criminal Contempt. You are welcome to call for a free consult.

Re: harrasment emails

This is a strange story. Law enforcement can get involved in harrasment or violations of injunctions whether it be phone calls, letters, or even email. But your facts don't indicate if there was an order against you as well. I wonder how the police found out you were emailing with your x friend. Did the xfriend set you up? You need to hire an attorney in NY and stay off the internet. If those communications were recorded you can assume this one is as well.
