Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

An investigator came to my home and asked me a few questions about my fiancee who is in county jail. Do I have to write a statement? Can what I already said be used against me even though I didnt sign a statement?

You are under no obligation to answer any questions nor provide any oral or written statement to any member of law enforcement at any time.

Anything you voluntarily say to a member of law enforcement can and will be used against you or your fiance.

In the future, you should consult with local counsel prior to speaking with law enforcement personnel.

Good luck!
