Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York
can a judge change a trial by judge to a trial by jury and start a trial by jury the next day without giving defendant time to prepare for trial by jury.

Yes. The preparation for a jury trial is not that different from the preparation for a bench trial (trial by judge).
