Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York
What kind of sentence is my son facing?
My son was arrested for a first offense of forgery. The total of the checks is $313.00. We are willing to pay the money back. He is 16 years old. The arrained him and he is in the county jail with a $10,000 cash bail or $20,000.00 bond. Please tell me what we will be hearing as far as sentincing when we go to court tomorrow night. He was arrested 3 days ago. We have never been in this situation before and don't know what to expect.

Re: What kind of sentence is my son facing?
I can't believe any judge in New York would hold a 16 year old on bail like that. The usual plea bargain for such an offense is Youthful Offender probation. Tell his lawyer not to take anything worse than that.
Re: What kind of sentence is my son facing?
It is way too early to be thinking of
sentencing. Your son is probably only
facing a preliminnary hearing, which is more
in the nature of bail, and given the amount
may be released. It is unusual to have
reduced charges offered as a plea bargain so
early except in NYC Hire an attorney
immediately. If there are no priors, given
the amount involved, there could be
fantastic reductions obtained
