Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

larceny

My friend I were caught for shoplifting and it came out to 2 counts of misdemeanors each. Should me and my friend with no past criminal records get a lawyer for our court date? How long will this be on our records? thank you.

Re: larceny

YOu are charged with a crime. You should definitely have a lawyer. Understand that depending on your age you may qualify as a Youthful offender, but you also could be incarcerated.

If you do not get adjudged a youthful offender, you could have a permenant criminal record. Permanent means permanent. NY has no mechanism for expungement. Such a record will stop you from owning a gun could cause deportation or could stop you from being allowed to travel to certain countries and could cost you housing or jobs.

Hence you should most definitely have a lawyer.

Re: larceny

It is in your best interest to retain a competent criminal defense attorney. Without more details it is difficult to offer any more real advise. I need to know your age,the place of the alledged crime and other specific details. I handle these matters on a daily basis with excellent results. As of now you are facing possible jail, a misdemeanor record ,both of which are not pleasant nor desired. It seems possible that with good counsel a plea bargain avoiding these results can be effectuated. Please call my office @7188340087 for a free phone consultation.

YES, you should absolutely get a lawyer... however, you may be entitled to legal aid depending on your income. You may wish to hire your own lawyer, to make sure that the case is dealt with more personally... if you are convicted you will have a record FOR LIFE... NY does not allow expungemen of records!
