Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York
larceny
My friend who is 17 years old was
recently arrested for larceny, he stole
$120 worth of goods from a
department store. he was told that he
could possibly go to prison for a year.
My question is: in New York State or
just in general, is there a high
probability that he wil get this
punishment? If not, what punishment
will he most likely receive?

Re: larceny
The Petit Larceny statute in New York provides for a maximum term of imprisonment of 1 year. Unless your friend has a history of criminal behavior and has already served prison sentences, it is HIGHLY unlikely that your friend will receive a sentence remotely close to 1 year. Your friend is welcome to call for a free consultation to discuss what the likely outcome will be.
