Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York
larceny
i had tried to take 2 subs totalling about 8 dollars from the supermarket and i got caught....i was not arrested, doe sthis have significance? also does it matter that i never left the store with the items? does the price of the items have any significance? what type of crime is larceny in this case? a misdemeanor or violation...also petit larency...what is this charge?

The price of the items is not relevant in this case, nor is the fact that you did not leave the store. Petit Larceny is a class A misdemeanor, punishable by up to 1 year in jail. If you were not arrested then this should not matter to you.
