Liability
My girlfriend took her car to the shop to get work done on it. While the car was in their possesion her car stereo was stolen. Is the shop liable?

Probably, for breach of a bailment contract
namely, failure to deliver back the
items bailed (a legal term of art) in the
same condition

The shop would be liable, unless there is something in writing or a sign posted in the shop to limit liability for personal property
