Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

misedemnor assualt 3rd degree

I was recently charged with 3rd degree assault I am a 27 year old professional who works for a Bank I have no record of anything what so ever... I was simply near a fight and was pointed out along with four others. Should I get my own lawyer or will the charges more than likely be reduced to a disturbance or possibly dropped. My first court date is in in 2 weeks

You should definatly get a lawyer. You work in the financial industry and if you ever try to change companies, the arrest may show up on a background check. As for accepting a plea deal, you need to consider the ramifications that could have down the road if you look to change jobs. The above is informational only and not meant as legal advise as there is no attorney-client relationship.

You need to get a lawyer. Assault in the third degree is a class A misdemeanor and carries a sentence of up to one year incarceration. Assault in the third degree is also a criminal conviction, which means it will remain on your record for the rest of your life. Please feel free to contact my office if we may be of any assistance to you in this matter.

It would be highly advisable for you to retain your own attorney to defend you and preserve your rights. You have been charged with a class A misdemeanor this can be a fairly serious matter that if convicted would reflect on your record for life. Having an attorney would greatly increase your chances of a plea to a much lesser charge, perhaps a violation or even a possibility of a dismissal depending on the circumstances. This area of law is our specialty, however, we would need some more information before making a complete and proper determination. You are welcome to contact us for a free consultation.
