What is my next move
A friend recently found out they have a warrant for a bad check in a county
they have not lived in for 8 years. they
were advised to turn themselves in.
they do not know what this could be
for. What should they do?

They should consult an attorney immediately. This is not something that can be answered here. They should not turn themselves in without a lawyer.
