Legal Question in Criminal Law in New York

murder

a friend of mine was stabbed in my home on may 2, 2000. my question is: the girl who seen the face of the guy, did a drawing composit. Why won't they show me what the drawing looks like? and why haven't they brought the guy in for questioning? The homicide detectives said it because of legal things. But if i know who the person in the drawing is (i have told them that)i would like to see it, and get this over with. my friend died because of this guy and i'm trying to help as much as possible, but it seems like the detectives are excluding me.

Re: murder

They don't want to show you the composite because it would taint your identification of the culprit, if they find him. They probably found that the girl is more helpful at this time - she may have gotten a better view or is more articulate or any number of things. They will use you as a confirmatory witness and don't want to taint you or your discription of the culprit or of what happened. This way, when asked questions to show that you have received suggestive information, you can honestly deny them.
